When the pandemic started, we all spent most of our time at home in quarantine. Because of that, it was pretty apparent what parts of our homes could use some upgrading. The pandemic has been stressful, so what better way than to channel that energy into making your home into the space of your dreams!
While you have time on your hands, you might as well make some upgrades to your home that you will benefit from now and in the future.
This pandemic forced people to slow down and spend more time in their homes. When you’re stuck inside your home with nowhere else to go, it’s important that you really love the space that you are living in. This is something that we all learned during this pandemic. Having a home that inspires you, yet feels comfortable and welcoming is key.
We made some smaller updates throughout our home like painting bedrooms, adding shelving to bathrooms, and we even went as far as adding an addition on to the house. It was the perfect time to truly create a space that worked for all of us.
Here are a few ways to spice up your home if it’s in need or you’re just looking for a fun project.
Paint – It seems so obvious that this is a great way to change up your rooms but maybe try out some fun colors that you wouldn’t normally use. You could also even paint on some designs (if you’re feeling artsy) as a way to pass the time and also create new vibes in your home. A fun project could be re-painting vases or other home decor you already have.
Clean Up – I’m not just talking about putting your items and clothes away where they belong but really doing a deep clean and getting rid of items that no longer serve you. Clean out your closet, drawers, coat closets, everything! It will feel amazing getting unwanted things out of your house. I personally love doing a monthly clean out of my closet and drawers so that I can make room for new clothing. You can either donate or sell your stuff. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
Build – If you’re anything like my family, you may want to really change things up and add on to your home. We decided to add a new deck and patio in our backyard which will be a great addition once we can start hosting again! If this sounds like something you may want to do, check out Brazilian Wood Depot. They are the Southeast’s premier importer of Brazilian hardwoods. They offer hardwood for decking, siding, and flooring. The hardwood that they offer is some of the hardest in the world and is actually up to 3x that of Oak. They are all naturally resistant to rot, decay, insect attack, fire, and mold. Their lumber is 100% natural with no added chemicals or treatments which are harmful to our atmosphere and the surrounding environment. Brazilian Wood Depot products are 100% REAL Wood- Premium Grade and Premium Milling. If you’re in the market for a new deck, check out their Ipe Siding. The colors are absolutely gorgeous and require little maintenance. I am all about keeping as many parts of the home as low maintenance as possible. It’s also extremely durable and rated to last a lifetime – 40-100 years. Be sure to give them a call if you’re in the market for Ipe Wood Siding maintenance!
Lighting – Adding new light fixtures in your home can make a huge difference in the style of your house. There are so many options you can choose from and it never hurts to add some lighting to your space. I recently added recessed lighting to my bedroom and I love how much brighter the whole room is now.
Landscaping – This can be a fun project if you are outdoorsy and looking for something different to do. It’s a good way to get the whole family involved, too. Get some fresh air, spend time with your loved ones (or work solo if you prefer that), and spice up the outside of your home.
Hopefully this list inspires you to make some changes for the better for your home! After all, it is the place that you spend a good portion of your time so it’s important that you love where you live.
